Coaches and mentors, like psychologists, need supervision: it is their cocoon, their space where they can deposit their questions, their impressions, cleanse the negative energy that sometimes emerges from very emotional coaching and, above all, feel accompanied by an experienced professional, who knows the framework of the process perfectly, is caring, and allows them to maintain or even recover their energy. The only condition: trust a supervisor who is trained in this discipline, which cannot be improvised.
We practice a wonderful job! By coaching, we contribute to making people happier, more effective in their profession and in their lives. It boosts our energy and makes us feel useful. However, over time, we can accumulate negative energy from the issues and themes that our clients bring to us. We must often deal with strong emotions that can impact us and make us lose our own energy. We find ourselves faced with difficult cases of people who need to make important decisions in their lives. We want to support them as best we can while maintaining our own equilibrium. Personally, I recognize this moment because I have learned to track it; I become more attracted to sugar, for example. This tells me that it is time for me to give myself space to recuperate my morale and energy. Either I can do it on my own through a walk with my dog, a good break, a moment of rejuvenation; or I cannot do it and I quickly make an appointment with my supervisor.
