About Viv

I have been working with senior executives and senior management teams for the last twenty years both in the UK and abroad and set up an Executive Coaching, Supervision and Leadership Development consultancy, Viv Chitty Associates, in 2010.

I have been supervising fellow coaches since qualifying with the Coaching Supervision Academy in 2009. I maintain my accreditation with CSA .

I provide supervision over the telephone and face-to-face. I bring to both my coaching and supervision practice experience gained whilst working as a consultant and trainer across a range of industry sectors since 1994. I have regular supervision with two supervisors and strive to develop my practice in both supervision and executive coaching as much as possible, regularly attending conferences, courses, reading groups and meeting with peers. In 2019 I gained a Masters in Coaching and Mentoring and my research dissertation resulted in a book for executive coaches, supervisors and all of us who work with people, 'Coaching for Optimal Energy: A Guide for Executive Coaches' and the design of the 'Optimal Energy (TM)' coaching programme.

The supervision relationship gives a supervisee a safe place and a supportive, challenging relationship where the supervisee can reflect on and think through their client work. Supervision allows them to improve their skills and understanding, gain new insights, learn new tools and techniques, unpick relationship and organisational dynamics and influences and therefore develop and sustain their competence.

What fascinates me about supervision and coaching is how we as the supervisor/coach can give the client the place where they are truly listened to and can most effectively do their own work. My aim is to provide a relationship where we can be curious together and be ourselves, a place of warmth and sometimes a place of laughter.

My supervision practice is informed by my qualification in Person Centred Counselling , my learning about Time to Think methodology, working with systems and recent findings in Neuroscience relevant to coaching and leadership. Models I use include Hawkins’ 7-Eyed Model of Supervision and the CSA Full Spectrum Model of Coaching Supervision.

As an executive coach I have worked with BNP Paribas Investment Partners UK Limited (both UK and Asia Pacific), AnaCap Financial Partners LLP, The Bank of England, Standard Bank, VTB Capital, ING, Fortis Investments, Alfred Berg (BNP Paribas), Hermes Fund Managers, Virgin Holidays, Morley Fund Management, Visa, B&Q, a leading international hotel chain, UEL and BAR formula 1.

My background in consultancy and training includes: the provision of both consultancy and training to a large global City Bank to establish mentoring programmes and running a consultancy called ‘Workforce Consultancy and Training'. This consultancy worked with organisations to develop and implement strategies for the support of staff after violence in the workplace and later broadened its focus to the management of sensitive issues in the workplace.

During this time I spoke at conferences including conferences organised by the British Retail Consortium and the Association for Counselling in the Workplace.

Testimonials

"Viv's layered questioning and resultant exploration helped me realise that it was my anxiety that was leading me to want to solve my clients' problems. As a result, I am going to step back during those moments and measure my internal stress. I intend to practice empathy and silence instead of trying to produce solutions whether through their own mouth or mine."
