Creating the Reflective Habit - a sample session for AOCS members

This online and experiential session has been especially designed for AOCS members. It follows the launch of "Creating the Reflective Habit: A practical guide for coaches, mentors and leaders" which will be published by Routledge on 12th June 2023.

In this event, Michelle will give a brief explanation of how the book evolved and explain how she hopes it will serve to bust the myth that reflection and journalling are one and the same thing.  The book is organised into five parts each offering reflective prompts that appeal to different processing styles Cognitive; Visual, Auditory, Kinaesthetic and Poetry.  The book also contains a chapter about the theory of reflection and a precise of the 8 steps of the "how to develop your refletive habit" chapter, will be shared.

The main part of the session will be an invitation to experiment with some sample prompts through individual and independent reflection.  The structure will mirror those of her regular sessions, which have the following flow:

* Welcome and introduction to the reflective prompts (resources provided via shared link)

* A guided mindfulness exercise to act as a transition from our day to day "busyness" towards a more reflective space

* An opportunity for independent reflection using the prompts provided (participants are placed in individual break out rooms for c. 20 mins)

* Participants are paired up to share experiences of working with the prompts and to move away from a more introspective energy

* Close using a "word cloud" articulating the felt sense of how people are leaving the session

Participants will be given a 20% discount code should they wish to purchase the book, alternatively there will be an invitation to join a LinkedIn "book club" - where content from the book will be openly shared on a regular basis. It is hoped that members will provide anecdotal evidence of the impact of reflection which will (with consent) form part of a research study.

Those enjoying the experience will be invited to attend the open sessions run on a monthly basis by greenfields.  These sessions are chargeable c. £15 per session; with discounts available for AOCS members.

If your intention to reflect on your work is high and yet like many you struggle to protect the time in your diary to do so - this webinar will help you get your "pause button" in good working order.
