After many years of coaching and being supervised, I decided to give back the support I’ve been given and focus on supporting coaches. As author Maya Angelou says, "When you learn, teach." Consequently my practice is split 80/20 between supervising, training and mentoring coaches as well as coaching executives, leaders and coaches around the world.
Although I’m currently focused on providing supervision to executive coaches and human resources professionals, I completely relate to the issues faced in coaching.
I have been coaching full-time since 2001, accruing over 10,000 coaching hours partnering with my clients growing their capabilities and increasing their confidence.
I have been supervising since 2007 and worked with both individual coaches and organisations who want to keep their edge, internal coaches supporting in-house coaching, leadership and/or change management programs and recent coaching graduates who are bridging their corporate backgrounds into the coaching profession. Each has unique requirements that are especially catered to in the supervision context.
Brigid Proctor, a pioneer of supervision, describes the intention of supervision to be "Formative, Restorative and Normative". Viewing coaching from this space creates shifts and crystalizes new perspectives. Supervision keeps coaching fresh for sustainable results for the experienced coach and supports the growing coach to go beyond their limitations.
