Membership Update Q1 2023

AOCS Team Changes

Jackie is stepping down from the 1st of April, retiring from her activities with AOCS, after many successful years’ service promoting supervision into the world and engaging and developing supervisors.  Jackie was a founding member of AOCS and more recently has been leading us on future themes, in the Joint Global Statement Group on Climate (JGSG), as well as guiding the transition as we restructured last year.

We're sure you will want to join with us in thanking Jackie for all her work and wish her well with everything that she will go on to give her powerful energies to. We hope you will make a point of joining us for her final event for AOCS: the 5th JGSG Roundtable on Climate Change. Jackie is co-leading the 5th  on 19th/20th April - a collaborative event with David Tinker of ReThinkly and Lydia Stevens of CCA, encompassing a unique experience of supervision. Details will be in the next News Update. Please do see below how to bring your support and interest to these Roundtable events. There is no more important issue to end on than this big future theme. It is so like Jackie to bring her best right in her Finale for AOCS.

  • We are going to miss the work that Jackie does for us, so we need to redouble all our efforts in bringing new team members in. We have had a conversation with a couple of people and will continue that process this month. Let us know if you are interested in future themes and have energy to support the work of AOCS in that area.

Congratulations to Jo Searle on officially becoming a member of the board and a statutory director of AOCS! Thank you to Jo for stepping forward in that capacity and we’re already appreciating the difference she makes with her unique strengths and experience mix. And because of her Global Coordinator role, she also knows who’s who and how we have been working in the Leads team so far. Although she may still say she feels new, she has been instrumental in our success so far.

We welcome Gillian Walter to the Leads team, ably and creatively stepping up to Global Coordinator to keep important conversations going forward among Regional Coordinators and draw actions from them into the Leads team for us to enact for our members.
  • In a volunteer organisation, work happens by creating little teams of members for each area of work. Each of us learns so much as we work with each other and we’ll have enough people holding the pieces of the puzzle to put something worthwhile together.  Perhaps you would like to contribute and learn in a team, while enhancing to the work we do at AOCS, promoting supervision, engaging and developing supervisors and the profession and creating a learning community as we go.
This summer our current Chair, Lorenza will be moving house, and will therefore be stepping into the background for a 6 month period and handing Chairing over to Jo. She'll still be working in her own business and available to answer questions, attend a meeting or two, but she need her energy and spare time back for her family during the transition. She intends to return in about 6 months, dependent on that move!
  • There are other changes in our teams that are taking shape, and will be communicated another time - it is the perfect time to join in if you would like to participate more, because we are reshaping our small teams and making more distinct areas of work. We can use small amounts of time regularly, or a short intense burst of energy, depending what suits you. Do engage your passion and get involved!

Membership Changes

As you all know we have been working hard behind the scenes to make everything as clear as possible to our members and to make it so that we can be as sustainable and equitable as possible in how we run things as a volunteer-led organisation.  You will perhaps be pleased to know that as part of this, we have considered our membership and fee structure and the outcome is not a big increase in fees (there is a slight tweak to a discount)!

What we have sought to do is be clearer on what different membership statuses mean, how  an individual qualifies for them, and how that links to the access and services you receive.

For individuals going forward there will be four categories:
Accredited
Qualified
In-training
Non-practising

The joining fee will continue to be £10 for everyone. There will be an alignment of the discounts available in year one so that members of EMCC, CSA, and AC will all now get 10%.
We’ve set this all out in the table below.

If you are currently listed as an associate or affiliate or other terminology that may have been used previously we will contact you in advance of your next subscription notice to confirm any changes, this should have a very minimal effect in terms of fees and service level. All the changes are designed to make things more simple.

Hopefully this causes minimal change for anyone – however if you have any questions please contact:
[email protected] Sam will be happy to help or raise questions with the team as necessary.

Regional Changes and Progress

We've had a busy start to the year with three productive meetings already under our belts. We'd like to extend our thanks to everyone who has been able to attend so far.

Our main focus at the moment is raising awareness of supervision in our respective regions. To that end, we're in the process of planning a series of supervision experience events. We're inviting all Regional Coordinators, as well as their supervisor colleagues, to join us and share their experiences of supervision.

Keep an eye out for invitations to these events – we hope to see you there!
