SGCP Coaching Psychology Workshops & Conference 2017: Giving Voice to Variety

SGCP are excited to announce the SGCP Conference at the Crowne Plaza and look forward to welcoming you to Birmingham.

Workshops: Thursday 7th December at Crowne Plaza, Birmingham City

Conference: Friday 8th December at Crowne Plaza, Birmingham City

Giving voice to variety is the theme

Coaching Psychology is at an exciting stage in its development. The Special Group in Coaching Psychology (SGCP) believes that to make real progress in expanding the body of knowledge from which we all draw, we need to reach out to colleagues in a variety of places and a raft of psychological disciplines. This year we will again be bringing that variety and range together for the conference to expand our thinking and stretch our practice.

Conference Programme

The SGCP Conference Programme has now been published.

The pre-conference workshops with Nicki Williams on understanding the menopause and Dr Carole Pemberton on resilience, are a must: they are both leaders in their fields.

The three keynotes are also unmissable:

  • Tom Sensky - Chronic Embitterment, Emeritus Professor of Psychological Medicine at Imperial College and a Consultant Psychiatrist will talk about the phenomenon of 'Chronic Embitterment' in organisations
  • Professor Devi Jankowicz - A Variety of Selves, a leading Occupational Psychologist and academic at Edinburgh Business School, and Associate Fellow of the BPS, will share his experience of researching and working with identity through personal construct theory
  • Myles Downey - Excellence in Coaching, a well-known voice in coaching globally since the early 1990s will impress, provoke and entertain in equal measure, helping us retain a shape edge in our practice.

We shall also hear, in symposium/workshop format, from the latest PhD research with Professor Jonathan Passmore, more about research methods, coaching in higher education with Dr Rebecca Jones, and have an opportunity to network and share with each other.

This conference is your prime opportunity to learn and contribute to the profession and its practice, as we invite you to engage with us as we ‘give voice to variety’ in thinking and practice, and includes Prof. David Lane's symposium on coaching supervision on the afternoon of December 8th.

Pre-conference workshops on Thursday, 7th December we are running an afternoon of two exciting workshops.
